IOM Hungary at Sziget Festival

Hungary - On Thursday, 10 August, IOM Budapest attended Sziget Festival following an invitation from the Hungarian Ministry of Interior. The team’s purpose was to raise awareness for human trafficking in the region.

Reports show that Hungary is among the top five countries of origin of victims of human trafficking within the European Union. Hungarians constituted 18% of total victims identified in trafficking investigations by EUROPOL between 2009 and 2013. IOM has been actively involved in government efforts to counter human trafficking.

Sziget Festival is a week-long event in Budapest showcasing musicians from all over the world. Last year’s festival was attended by 440,000. The numbers for this year are estimated to be higher.
